About Us

It was a vision with clear objective which shaped MOL Manning Service S.A. (MOLMS) in June 1995, a fully owned subsidiary of MOL, Tokyo. The specific objective is to meet the manning requirements of MOL Group Company’s managed vessels from India by sourcing qualified seafarers. With this objective, liaison offices at Mumbai and Kolkata were established on 1stDecember 1995 under the Reserve Bank of India rules with Mumbai as the nodal office.

With the merger of Navix Lines with MOL in 1999 and the creation of new MOL, fresh concept was taking place. This finally took shape in July 2000 with the transfer of Navix Marine (India) Private Limited (NMI) shareholding to MOLMS and relocation at the premises of Mitsui O.S.K. Manning Services Liaison Office, Mumbai. Subsequently the NMI was renamed as Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Maritime (India) Private Limited (MOLMI) in February 2001. The function of MOLMS liaison office was transferred to MOLMI on 1 April 2001.

Molmi Office

We (MOLMI) are the in-house manning and seafarer training wing of MOL in India and our activities in India started in December 1995 when a Liaison Office for MOL’s subsidiary was established in Mumbai with a branch office in Kolkata. With the world-wide merger of Navix Lines with MOL in 2000, MOL’s manning activity in India was taken over by this company in April 2001 when all the staff of the Liaison offices were transferred to this company. Before MOLMI branch offices were established in Chennai in April 2006 and New Delhi in September 2007, we operated through Coordinating offices in these cities from 2003 and 1997 respectively.

MOLMI obtained the Recruitment and Placement Service License from Seaman’s Employment Office, Mumbai, India on 30 December 2006 under the rules governed by Merchant Shipping Rules in force. Recruitment and Placement license no. RPSL-MUM-064 is valid upto 07-Oct-2026.Mitsui O.S.K. Manning Service (MOMS) has been renamed as MOL Manning Service (MOLMS) with effects from 30 June 2010.Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Maritime (India) Private Limited renamed as MOL Maritime (India) Private Limited in April 2019. MOLMI became IATA approved Travel agent effective 2020.

Initially the company only conducted manning activity directly and from 1997, we were training seafarers either in small numbers in-house or in 3rd party institutes but from October 2001 onwards, full time training of in-house seafarers commenced, and vessel inspection activities commenced in September 2005. The 360-degree Simulator was installed in our MANET Pune campus Training centre in February 2008. For better co-ordination and synergy with our operations team, the training facilities were relocated to Andheri, Mumbai from 20th June 2018.The institute is equipped with a State-of-the-Art technology 180°and 360° BRM Simulator for deck officers in addition to Electrical Training Workshop. In Sep-2022, Engine Room Resource Management Simulator was installed at Training Centre. Training is also conducted at our Head Office and at times in our branch offices. Value added courses are also conducted where seafarers can be further honed to perfection in their professional competencies. LNG Cargo Simulator module is installed at MOLMI Head Office.

MOLMI’s training department continuously focuses and encompasses on development of new courses or modification of on-going courses keeping pace with the industry requirement and MOL’s future vessels requirement.

The company also assists in selection of Trainees (Officers and Ratings) regularly and provides career path for them.

In year 2005 “Marine Safety Group” was formed in MOLMI to carry out in-house inspection of ships owned and operated by MOL group. First ship was inspected in Nov-2005. 10 MOL Ship Inspectors are presently working in MOLMI. From 2020 onwards horizon of Dry vessel inspections got extended to Tanker, LPG vessel as will. Till Nov 2022, 2688 inspection of Dry, Tanker & LPG vessels have been carried out.

Molmi Training

The Company has grown to manning 66 vessels with 780 slots as on Nov-2022 from the fleet of 24 vessels and 160 slots in December 1996. The fleet comprises of Container Ships, Pure Car Carriers, Bulk Carriers, LNG Carriers (Motor/Steam) etc.

We welcome all qualified seafarers who would like to work in environment with safety culture at highest priority. Many of MOLMI’s seafarers have been awarded with MOL’s Presidential award, which have been instituted to promote safety culture.Loyalty awards are also presented to seafarers, who have been in the service of the company for more than 10 years. We have many seafarers who have joined us as cadets/trainee engineers and have risen to the ranks of Master and Chief Engineers. Many seafarers who have worked on our vessels have been inducted into in-house MOL Group Companies world-wide as well as in MOLMI’s Head office and Branch Offices.

Seafarers (Officers and Ratings) are eligible for medical insurance cover for themselves and theirfamilies while in the service of the company, irrespective of either onboard or on leave. Officers are covered under Term Life insurance,which covers them while serving onboard or on leave.

Seminars/Conferences/ Webinars are conducted in the 4 main metropolitan cities, which are not just educational but also give an opportunity for seafarers to interact not only with the ship managers but also with seafarers from all over India. A quarterly magazine (HELLO MOLMI) is published with achievements and other news of our seafarers. Wives of officers receive splendid birthday gifts, which especially are much appreciated when the husbands are sailing on our good vessels.

The activities of the company are basically to man the MOL group company’s vessels with qualified seafarers and retain them in the company pool.
